How to Use AML Bible
Use the Bible to move from an AML question to the relevant control, evidence standard and jurisdiction context.
1. Find the control
| Question | Open | Result |
|---|---|---|
| What does the concept mean? | AML Foundations | Definitions, control purpose and source logic. |
| How is the review performed? | AML Analyst Operating Workflow | Intake, scope, screening, match resolution, escalation and re-screening. |
| What evidence must be retained? | Screening Evidence Standard | Queries, identifiers, no-hit records, match IDs, screenshots/PDFs and disposition notes. |
| Which legal rule controls the answer? | Regulation Map | Jurisdiction, sector, authority, legal basis, trigger and deadline. |
2. Keep the layers separate
| Layer | Role |
|---|---|
| AML Bible | Methodology, controls, workflows, evidence handling and source literacy. |
| Regulation Map | Jurisdiction-specific obligations, deadlines, authority references and source evidence. |
| Company Policy / SOP | Provider choice, screening thresholds, review cadence, storage rules and approval routes. |
| Case File | Actual search record, result, analysis, decision, escalation and audit trail. |
3. Run the review sequence
- Define the subject: customer, UBO, director, authorised person, bank, counterparty, employee, vendor, goods or service.
- Identify the trigger: pre-approval, onboarding, periodic review, event-driven review, payment, data change or investigation.
- Select the control: CDD, BO verification, sanctions, PEP, adverse media, geographic exposure, trade controls, monitoring or recordkeeping.
- Preserve evidence: source, query, identifiers, date/time, parameters, result, match IDs and analyst disposition.
- Route the outcome: clear, request information, EDD, manual review, MLRO escalation, decline or reporting assessment.
4. Use source categories before tool names
Start with the source class: official sanctions authority, commercial screening database, consolidated dataset, company registry, beneficial-ownership register, adverse-media source, domain/network intelligence source or customs/trade-control source.
Specific platforms, match-score thresholds, file names, network folders and mandatory screenshots are implementation settings. They belong in the institution's SOP, not in the universal methodology.
5. Use Regulation Map for legal application
When the answer depends on jurisdiction, sector, deadline, authority or mandatory reporting language, move from the Bible control to the Regulation Map obligation and cite the current source record.
